(1 may. 1923, Brooklyn, N.Y., EE.UU.–12 dic. 1999, East Hampton, N.Y.).

Escritor estadounidense. Voló en 60 misiones de combate como bombardero en la segunda guerra mundial, antes de completar sus estudios en las universidades de Columbia y de Oxford y trabajar de redactor publicitario. Su satírica novela Trampa 22 (1961), inspirada en sus experiencias bélicas, fue una de las obras más significativas de la literatura de protesta de posguerra, al tiempo que un gran éxito de crítica y de ventas. Entre sus últimas novelas cabe mencionar Algo ha pasado (1974), Tan bueno como el oro (1979), Dios sabe (1984) y La hora del recuerdo (1994).
